Batches Bakery to Close Storefront on May 10

But the brand is continuing! Learn what that means. But in the meantime, get a brownie, stat!

The Third Ward bakery Batches is closing next week – May 10 is the last day of operations for the storefront cafe (401 E. Erie St.). Yes, I am sad too. I love the chocolate revel bar, cheddar-scallion scone and vegan brownie, among other things. So fair warning to all: You’ve got one week to get your Batches fix! (Hours: Sat-Sun 8 a.m.-3 p.m.; Tues-Friday 7 a.m.-6 p.m.)

But here’s the silver lining in all this: In running the bakery for close to 15 months, co-owner Dan Jacobs (who lends his first name to DanDan Restaurant, sibling of Batches, as well as Esterev and Fauntleroy) say it generated other business for them – namely wholesale, wedding and catering accounts. So the Batches brand lives on.

And among those wholesale accounts are The Tandem, Avenue Coffeehouse in South Milwaukee, and the Anodyne cafes in Walker’s Point, in Milwaukee Public Market and in Wauwatosa. Between pastry chefs Jaceleen Latin-Kasper (a partner in Batches Bakery) and Linda Thai and their teams, they create the desserts and pastries for all of the restaurants in the JVR Group portfolio. That’s the name of the hospitality company formed by restaurateurs/chefs Jacobs and Dan Van Rite. In the near future, that will also include the desserts and pastries at the Iron Horse Hotel, for which JVR Group recently became long-term consultants.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get myself another chocolate revel bar (or many) before May 10…
