Ask MilMag: What’s Your Favorite Tailgating Memory?

It seems every Wisconsinite has a favorite memory of tailgating before a game. Here are our staff’s.

Carole Nicksin: Bambi Bites at an Indy 500 tailgate – chunks of venison wrapped in bacon. Tasty, and goes well with beer at 9 a.m.

Chris Drosner: Mine is a Packers regular season finale with a few key ingredients: cold weather, a tight group of high school buddies, a big pot of my best chili and a win over the Bears (en route to the Super Bowl XLV championship).

Archer Parquette: College. My friend had a Batman mask. I wore it. Freed my spirit. I became The Night. Ate many burgers. Never made it to the game.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

Brianna Schubert: There’s a very specific potato salad from Walmart that I love – the Amish Potato Salad. Any time I go tailgating and that’s there, I’m the happiest gal alive.

Katie Williams: I tailgated at a subzero degree Packer game once. Upon cracking a beer, the beer froze instantly! We switched to whiskey.

Melisa Mackevicius-Leonard: Tailgating before the Farm Aid concert, navigating a slippery, muddy lot and having “car-made” guacamole (as opposed to homemade). We were a muddy mess, but the show went on with Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson and more.

Abby Yemm: Charcuterie is my favorite food group! Any time tiny sandwich items are involved, I’m in.

Chelsea Mamerow: Last year, a friend reserved a group tailgate spot at American Family Field. We had plenty of room for a top-tier setup that included a full-sized gas grill, a tented seating area and multiple games. Bonus: You get to be the first ones in the lot!

Sophie Yufa: I haven’t quite had the chance to tailgate like a real Sconnie yet, but I’m a total sucker for a good old-fashioned hot dog and a cup of Dippin’ Dots.
