Anime Milwaukee Will Bring Experienced Cosplayers Together

The event, which will feature a cosplay contest, is at the Baird Center March 8-10.

If you’re into cartoons, comics, games or (of course) anime, then the place to be on the weekend of March 8-10 is Anime Milwaukee at the Baird Center.

What started in 2007 as a grassroots effort by a group of UWM students who were fans of the Japanese animation with a distinctive style has evolved into a statewide convergence that has grown in attendance each year.

Visitors can shop for artwork, play Dungeons & Dragons, and meet English-language voice actors from popular media like “Naruto” and “Final Fantasy.”

A highlight is the Masquerade, a cosplay contest where fans perform as fictional characters and show off their handcrafted costumes. Experienced cosplayers pour months, sometimes years, into their creations to compete for awards in craftsmanship and best in show, but there are categories for all skill levels.

“If you need cosplay advice, they’ll give it to you,” says press manager Keegan LaJeunesse. “They’re not gatekeepers.”
