To many Americans, the stress of the news cycle and social media discussions on the upcoming elections can almost feel inescapable.
Aloft Milwaukee Downtown is offering a remedy to area residents after they’ve cast their ballots by hosting a puppy-cuddling “Not Watch Pawty” on Tuesday, along with providing an adorably soothing, dog-led meditation video.

Dogs are known to reduce stress levels in humans with just a few pats, so the “Not Watch Pawty” is designed to give news-weary residents some respite on election night by gathering with canines from a local shelter and enjoying drinks at the hotel’s WXYZ bar. The puppies will come from Rescue Gang, a Milwaukee nonprofit organization focused on helping pups in need find their forever homes. The dogs come from shelters in the South (mostly Texas), where they are in danger of euthanasia.
“November 5 is around the corner and election commentary is buzzing, particularly in Milwaukee,” Aloft Hotels Global Brand Leader Brian Jaymont said. “We thought we’d give locals a chance to de-stress after they’ve voted with an invitation to the Aloft Milwaukee Downtown, where they can cuddle local shelter dogs and enjoy pup-themed cocktails and light bites.”
The event, which is free and doesn’t require registration, begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Aloft Milwaukee Downtown, 1230 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Dogs will be available for adoption.
For those that can’t make the event, Aloft has created a dog-led 47-minute meditation video (in honor of the incoming 47th president of the United States) that features a sweet pup who gazes into the camera with warm brown eyes and encourages viewers to “paws” and stretch, while staying positive. A Zen-like soundtrack bathes viewers in calming sounds. The doggy meditation guide also dispenses feel-good affirmations throughout the video like “Repeat after me. I am pawsome.”
Aloft has a history of welcoming guests’ four-legged travel buddies on its properties through its Arf (Animals R Fun) program, which provides animal guests with Aloft-branded dog beds, indoor water bowls and pet toys. Aloft properties give pups the freedom to accompany their owners throughout the hotel.
“We hope this calming video and our ‘Not Watch Pawties’ give people a chance to relax and reset,” Jaymont said.
