Ale Asylum Fans Rejoice
I stopped in at Ale Asylum Riverhouse (1110 N. Old World Third St.) a few days ago, and if you’re a fan of the brewery, you’ll be a fan of the new bar/restaurant. Ale Asylum brews occupy 14 of the 16 taps in the place and I enjoyed a deliciously fresh tap of Bedlam! while I was there. Having so many tap lines dedicated to Ale Asylum means that beers that you don’t see everywhere, like Phantasm Autumn Ale and Pantheon Imperial Brown Ale, have a home.
Riding the Brew Bus
The Country Roads Brewery Bus Tour is another solid effort from Hop Head Beer Tours. The Country Roads Tour takes place Saturday, March 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and hits Vintage Brewing, New Glarus, Grumpy Troll and Wisconsin Brewing Company. The tour costs just $60 and tickets are still available. Hop Head puts together some great tours that are well worth the trip to Madison.
Barley Pop of the Week
Une Annee Brewery is one of many bright spots in Chicago’s constantly growing brewing scene (there are a few lowlights too, but I won’t mention them), and thankfully Une Annee brews are sold in Milwaukee. I was lucky enough to sample Une Annee Hopsurd Imperial IPA recently, and it’s delicious. The tropical fruit flavor gives way to pronounced bitterness. Hopsurd is potent but smooth and worth trying if you see it.

In related news, Ray’s Wine & Spirits (8930 W. North Ave.) no longer carries Sixpoint Beast Mode (due to the fact that it’s the nickname of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch).
Badger State Brewing earned high marks for its Dubious Ruffian Chocolate Stout from the Beverage Tasting Institute at the World Beer Championships. The brew earned a silver medal and a “highly recommended” score of 85 (out of 100).

Tuesday, Jan. 27: Paul Alexander from Potosi Brewing takes over the taps at The Malt Shoppe (813 N. Mayfair Rd.) from 6 to 8 p.m. He’s bringing Templeton Slugger Barrel-Aged Oatmeal Stout and Hopsmith Imperial IPA with him.
Wednesday, Jan. 28: Bierklasse takes place at Cafe Hollander (2608 N. Downer Ave.) starting at 7 p.m. Sample five beers from Chimay for just $30. Email Bierklasse@LowlandsGroup.com to make a reservation.
Thursday, Jan. 29: Downer’s Cafe Hollander hosts a Chimay beer dinner at 7 p.m. The four course meal includes Chimay White, Blue, Red and Doree. Cost is $45 and reservations can be made by calling 414-963-6366.
Thursday, Jan. 29: Ray’s Growler Gallery hosts the East Coast vs. West Coast Brew Battle starting at 5 p.m. Compare some of the best from Lagunitas (representing the west) and Southern Tier (the east) and bring your favorites home.
Friday, Jan. 30: Deschutes brings samples to Discount Liquor Milwaukee (5031 W. Oklahoma Ave.) from 4 to 7 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 30: Samples of Wells & Young’s tasty Double Chocolate Stout and Banana Bread Beer are available at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow Ave.) from 4 to 7 p.m.
Friday, Jan. 30: Solemn Oath brings its Viking brews (Kidnapped by Vikings, Ravaged by Vikings and Death by Viking) to the Nomad as well as Pain Cave IIPA. The invasion starts at 6:66 (7:06 p.m.)
