A New Puppet Show Production Is Coming to the Locust Street Festival

See the Quasimondo Physical Theatre’s production of ‘Escape From the Future’ on Sunday at noon and 1 p.m.

Inspired by conversations with residents and social media forums discussing the importance of community in times of uncertainty, a new production by puppetry artist and Quasimondo Physical Theatre ensemble member Michael Pettit will have its initial staging Sunday at the Locust Street Festival of Music and Art.

The 20-minute performances, which will be held at noon and 1 p.m. at the Garden Park Stage, 821 E. Locust St., will introduce themes, characters and stories that will continue to develop and flourish in future productions.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

Here’s what’s in store:

In the year 2492, the energy of a rare planetary alignment is harnessed to open a time travel gateway. Characters from multiple future realities make their way to the portal, each determined to discover the key to their own ideal future somewhere in present-day Riverwest. Their quests warp the rules of reality, timelines are fractured, and their efforts to change history have unimaginable consequences.

The inaugural showing at the Locust Street Festival of Music and Art will feature what is described as a motley crew of retro-futuristic cyberpunks, an organic oracle and her pet chicken, a giant walking tree, a sinister corporate entrepreneur and a humanoid mutant with a giant roast beef sandwich for a head.

Featuring Sarah Ann Mellstrom, Jessi Miller, Bill Olsen, Andrew Parchman, Michael Pettit, and Alex Roy, the performances will include live musical accompaniment, comic book action, puppetry, and more, and is suitable for all ages.

The performance will be free to the public. Lawn seats will be limited and be first-come, first-served.
