A Beach Bar Party? Sign Us Up

St. Paul Fish Market is transforming its outdoor watering hole into a one-day tropical Shangri-la.

This Saturday if you see a little bit of Cancun on the corner of Broadway and St. Paul in the Third Ward, don’t think you’re losing your mind. St. Paul Fish Company at Milwaukee Public Market (400 N. Water St.) is trying to take your mind off the white fluffy stuff on the ground outside.

Undeterred by cold, slushy precipitation, the fish folks are throwing a one-day Beach Bar Party on Saturday (that’s April 21, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.) in their outdoor “palapa”-style bar (it has a thatched roof). The staff plans to spread 9,000 pounds of sand over the bar’s floor space. To sweeten the already sweet deal (sand, bar, drinks), the first 100 customers at the bar will get a free Hawaiian lei. Be sure to wear your best beach wear. There will be a contest naming best beach dressed (1-3 p.m.) And because mood is key, a reggae DJ will get the Bob Marley vibe on between 1 and 5 p.m. Red Stripe beer is 2 bucks all day.
