Theoretical physicist Dirk Brockmann says Milwaukee (and most of Wisconsin, for that matter) should be part of a large state with Chicago at its core. Brockmann used the Where’s George website to create a map based on how our dollars move and then posted it to Fast Company. (The writer describes the dollar bill tracking site as a “primitive FourSquare for $1 bills.”)
The new Chicago-centric state stretches from current Iowa up to Wisconsin and even over to Indiana and Michigan. And we aren’t the only state to get divvied up into new “states”: Missouri is split almost equally in half.
That Milwaukee’s economy is connected to Chicago is nothing new, but the idea that our money is way more likely to flow between Milwaukee and Chicago than Milwaukee and Eau Claire (which would be in a new state with Minneapolis) is interesting.
