Though his house is buoyed by a bounty of brightly colored balloons, Carl (a charismatically cranky Asner) learns to let go in this highly enjoyable yet bittersweet adventure comedy from Pixar (Toy Story, Wall-E.). Taking flight aboard his house to South America for an adventure he and his late wife, Ellie, always dreamed of but never attained, the crotchety yet sympathetic Carl is unknowingly joined by a hyper Wilderness Explorer kid who takes him on an unexpected journey. Though children will love the humor and the anthropomorphized dogs, Carl and Ellie’s heartwarming relationship and the grounding message that life’s simplicities count more than lofty dreams will affect adults much more.
