Some things to read while getting jumbled.

We are still 94 days away from pitchers and catchers reporting to Maryvale Baseball Park to open the 2015 season, but Monday was an offseason-defining day for two of the Milwaukee Brewers’ rivals in the National League Central Division.

First, the Cardinals pulled off arguably the biggest trade of the offseason to date, trading pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins to the Braves for outfielder Jason Heyward and reliever Jordan Walden. Heyward is 25, has already played five seasons in the majors and won his second Gold Glove in 2014, making up for something of a down year offensively. Walden had a 2.88 ERA over 58 appearances for the Braves in 2014 and struck out 11.2 batters per nine innings. Noah Jarosh of Brew Crew Ball has a look at what this deal means for the other teams in the division.

While things got better in St. Louis, things took a turn for the worse in Pittsburgh as former Pirates catcher Russell Martin signed a five-year, $82 million contract with the Blue Jays. Martin hit .256 with a .362 on-base percentage and .401 slugging in two seasons with Pittsburgh, and received votes for the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award both seasons. He’ll leave a significant gap for the Pirates to attempt to fill this winter.

Former BrewCrewBall editor Kyle Lobner has produced the Frosty Mug each weekday since March 2008. That’s nearly 1500 Mugs across six years, a tenure that saw the project grow from a small daily diversion to an all-encompassing look at the Brewers universe. He brought the Mug to Milwaukee Magazine prior to the 2014 Brewers season. When Kyle's not writing about the Brewers or talking about them on the radio, you’ll often find the Appleton resident at the ballpark with his wife, Laura, or out for a walk with his dachshund, Gorman.
