Monday, Jan. 3: Holy Shit! at The Borg Ward, 8 p.m.
Holy Shit! is coming off quite the year. Yes, 2010 saw the Milwaukee four-piece touring throughout the East Coast and in Japan (where they’re apparently huge!) and releasing a 15-song “full-length” that clocks in at – if you’ll believe it – less than 15 minutes. As far as abrasive local hardcore goes, this is pretty much the coup de grâce. Check out these Asian people loving them some Holy Shit! What? It’s not offensive. THE CLIP IS FROM ASIA!
North Dakota variety show The Lampshade Brigade and Peter Woods will also perform. (823 W. National Ave., MySpace.com/TheBorgWard)
Wednesday, Jan. 5: Evan Christian at The Jazz Estate, 10 p.m.
I assure you, ladies, I’m not trying to impress you when I tell you that I know absolutely nothing about jazz. Even so, local jazzman Evan Christian is someone I’ve been meaning to see. The guitarist plays a hometown show between international gigs. Sounds like a great place for a date. Anyone? No? OK. (2423 N. Murray Ave., JazzEstate.com)
Also: The Sensationalists, D.C. Monroe, Kyle Patrick Eklund and Marauder at Mad Planet, 8 p.m. (533 E. Center St., Mad-Planet.net)
Thursday, Jan. 6: Hypnopotamus at The Up & Under Pub, 10 p.m.
I feel like you know what you’re getting with this one, but to put to bed any uncertainty of this Madison quintet’s jam band status, allow me to quote Hypnopotamus’ MySpace bio. “A five-headed funky mammal, borne of the fabled wormhole at the edge of the universe and ridden straight to your ears by a scant clad Valkyrie. Known for its mystical properties, such as the power to set a dead dance floor aflame, this cosmic creature will captivate and intoxicate, dilate your mind, and inflate your soul.” Yep. (1216 E. Brady St., TheUpAndUnderPub.com)
Also: The Squeezettes at Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory Domes, 6:30 p.m. ($5/$6.50) as part of the Music Under Glass Series. (524 S. Layton Blvd., MilwaukeeDomes.org)

Also: Ifihadahifi at The Cactus Club, 10 p.m.
Energetic noise rock in palindrome form. Death Dream, Bear Claw and New Brutalism are also booked to play. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave, CactusClubMilwaukee.com)
