The Brewcity Bruisers

Okay, so, the jammers line up behind the jammer line and they start the round on the second whistle behind the rest of the pack. When the jam begins the jammers try to move up and through the pack. The pack, made up of 8 blockers, 4 from each team, block the opposing team’s jammer. The blockers try to create a wall with their bodies. They can’t actually use their elbows, contrary to popular belief. If the jammer is fast on her feet and has some fancy footwork she can break through and out in front of the pack. Once…

Once out in front the jammer must then race around the circular track to again catch up and move through the pack. It is on her second pass that she begins to score points.

This is Women’s Roller Derby. On Sunday, down at the US Cellular Arena, Shevil Knevils faced off against Maiden Milwaukee and the Rushin Rollettes battled against the Crazy Eights. With a vibe very much like WWF, complete with costumes and trash talk these women put on a good show. It’s definitely a fun way to shake up a winter afternoon.

More than thrills and spills and the release of pent up aggression, The Brewcity Bruisers are committed to supporting opportunities for positive change in women’s physical, social and mental health (www.brewcitybruisers.com).  They give back to the local community. Each month they select a charity/organization to support. In March receive $2 off admission at the door by donating hygiene items such as deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, pads, tampons or white face towels.  Items collected will be donated to PEARLS for Teen Girls.

The Brewcity Bruisers host their next home bouts, Saturday, March 19th at 7pm at the US Cellular Arena on W Kilbourn Avenue.

Check it out, have some fun and support these wild and crazy women.
