Although I would concede all of the virtues you accord Gousha, the decline of news on television has been happening here and nationwide since at least the 1970s when the term “happy talk” was derisively applied to the growing power of consultants and, late, their cousins, focus groups.
The trend accelerated in the 90s around the time of Iraq War I with its USA-USA! coverage. (Remember Channel 6’s War Set?) Gousha may indeed be disgusted but, if so, he’s had to be disgusted a long time at a 6 figure salary.
One might argue that the 60s and early 70s news operations were actually an aberration and the trivialization of news the norm. Remember J Fred Muggs on the Today Show?
