I recently had a conversation with Milwaukee based photographer and friend Stef Bartz about her new wearable art pieces fashioned from photographs that she takes of the subject, which is then made into lovely silver plated or sterling silver jewelry by jeweler Sarah Mann (mannstudio.com).
How long have you been a photographer?
I’ve been in business for 15 years.
We worked together many moons ago, and I love the way you’re able to capture just the perfect moment. Is that innate or something you’ve just developed?
Some of it is innate some practice and then some experience.
How did you come up with this new collaboration?
Sarah approached me after seeing my fashion ring (silver plated) of a sweet little dog on my finger this past summer. We are are in an art group called W.I.P (Works In Progress). I was honored to have such an accomplished and talented artist want to work together! And also fun to work with a friend!
I know you’ve been doing pet/people portraits for a while now, but how long have you been doing the pixessories? I started working on the fashion rings and pendants in July. It took over a month of experimenting, researching and playing around to figure out the best combo of glues to make a wearable art piece. They are made with TLC and photo safe glues.
Does someone have to have their portrait done by you to get a pixessory made?
Yes, I now offer two shoots, a mini and full session. See website for pricing.
What is the turn around for the pixessories before Christmas?
It’s a 2-3 week process. It is art after all, and the process takes time. Gift cards are also available for shoots and the PiXessories.
