We are fortunate here in Milwaukee to have many extremely talented photographers so when it comes time to choose one for your wedding it’s hard to know where to start the search.  Most couples know to look at the online photos, reviews and consider their budget but it’s also extremely important to find a photographer whose style of photos matches your own unique personalities and vision. The three main types of wedding photography include photojournalistic, traditional and artistic. To be very brief in these descriptions, photojournalistic tells a story, traditional has you striking a pose and artistic has the photographer utilizing every lens and camera trick up his sleeve. Many photographers will tell you they use a mix of all three but the key is finding a photographer who uses the styles you are looking for in the right proportions. Unlike the wedding cake, music and flowers, the photographs are hung in your home, used as gifts and eventually shared with your children when they ask about their parents’ wedding day so it’s important find a photographer who not only takes the pictures but who captures the day the way they have envisioned it.

While there are plenty of couples looking for the more traditional posed photographs, Nicholas Norbert Photography is a true gem for the modern couple looking for a more contemporary portrayal of their day. I met with Nick in his newly established office space located in the Blatz building in downtown Milwaukee.  The space is warm and welcoming like Nick himself and after seeing a few examples of his work proudly displayed on the cream city walls I knew I was in for a treat.

Nick received his first SLR camera as a high school graduation gift and began shooting photos as a hobby while he studied for a career in business. After completing his degree, he spent three years working in marketing but soon became bored with the day to day office grind and decided to shoot weddings part-time.  His hobby quickly turned into a full time career when he said good-bye to his day job to pursue his passion for building a full-time wedding photography business.  And aren’t we lucky he did!

Nick sums up his style of work as being contemporary and artistic with a blend of modern creative posing styles and photojournalism.  The time spent on posed, traditional photos is kept to a minimum with more time spent capturing the day and it’s emotions as they develop naturally.  This doesn’t mean that you won’t get the formal posed photos with mom and dad, it just means that the time for these group shots is kept to a quick couple of clicks after the ceremony so that the real story of your wedding can be told through the natural emotions and events that develop throughout the day – without prompting.

For couples looking for unique options in regards to wedding albums, Nick has truly found the solution for you. The wedding albums I had the opportunity to see were far from typical being made of everything from silks and fabrics to metals. Categorized as Swanky and Super Swanky, the albums come in many different sizes and shapes making them fabulously fashionable coffee table conversation pieces.  Most brides relish the opportunity to proudly display their wedding pictures instead of tucking them away on a bookcase somewhere to gather dust and while the photos inside are the real showstoppers, the design of the album makes everyone who stops by your pad want to pick up the album and take a peek.

In recommending wedding photographers to couples, it’s always important for everyone to meet before making a final decision to be sure that personalities, expectations and styles match. While Nicholas Norbert Photography is no exception, I’m confident recommending him to all of my modern Milwaukee couples.  For more information including a fabulous photography gallery, take a look at the website
