Say Cheese!

Weddings are definitely a time to let loose and celebrate. Normally as the night progresses, the heels come off, the ties are loosened and the groom’s crazy uncle is leading a conga line past the coffee station. If this sounds like your family, perhaps you want to direct that conga line straight into a wedding night photo booth! Photo booths at weddings began to take off a couple years back, and the Milwaukee market is still going strong with different types of booths and different types of booth options constantly being added to the market to keep the idea fresh…

Local Linens for Every Event

Nothing makes a reception venue really come alive than surprising guests with a splash of color. Even if your budget is on the smaller side, adding a few specialty linens will add an extra pop to your room and draw out the personalized touches that make your wedding unique. As with many people in the wedding industry, Aixa Stelter dreamed of one day working with couples to plan their weddings. She began her career by working in event planning and eventually came across an opportunity to own a company of her own. She jumped at the chance and started AMS…

Beyond the Circus

Since I’ve been a kid, when it comes to a party having a theme makes it that much better.  Even though the themes are no longer clowns and carnivals, working as an event planner I still see couples wanting to incorporate some sort of theme into the biggest party they will ever throw. There is a big difference however in using a theme to tie together the details of a wedding compared to throwing a five year old birthday party. Wedding themes should be more understated and should mean something to couple or it will feel forced and unnatural to…

Emily Johnson Photography

As a child, Emily Johnson always enjoyed taking pictures but her real passion was writing stories. Now as an adult, she tells the story of each couple’s wedding through the lense of her camera. I had the opportunity to work with Emily a few weeks back and ended up not only enjoying her photos, but her enthusiasm from start to finish of an event. At the start of her career in photography, Emily began by shooting fine art botanical prints and working for a company that provided newborn photography services for most of the Milwaukee area hospitals. She started photographing…

Milwaukee Summertime Weddings

Milwaukee summers are filled with weddings. While I have equal love for a winter soiree, most couples would rather take their chances with rain then worry about snowmageddon ruining their wedding day. Now don’t get me wrong, I understand the thought process but I also think that when many couples envision their summertime weddings, they seldom think of the many other elements that can take a toll on even the most carefully laid plans. Noticed the heat these last few weeks? I’ll guarantee that most couples who had outdoor ceremonies this summer didn’t expect the temps to top 90 degrees!…

Miss Ruby Boutique

Nestled discreetly in a second floor loft on Water Street in Downtown Milwaukee, Miss Ruby Boutique has become a destination for sought after attire by stylish brides and their maids and mothers. I popped by the boutique on Thursday and had the opportunity to meet with Erin Thull, who is one half of the mother-daughter team that launched Miss Ruby five years ago.   When walking into this quaint shop I immediately wished I had a fancy dinner date with my husband that I could justify spending some time trying on a few of the many designer dresses they have…

Saying “I Do” With a Brew

Those of us who live in the Milwaukee area probably don’t think of our great city as a prime location for destination weddings. However as a wedding planner I get a lot of calls from out-of-state couples who due to either family or sometimes collegiate ties are looking to make Brew City the destination of choice for their pending nuptials. Since these weddings are technically destination weddings in Milwaukee, most of these couples want a location for their event that has a unique Milwaukee feel. Now us locals know that our great city has more to it than brats, beer…

Saz’s Event Showcase

Saz’s Seafood Tower Being from Milwaukee and a regular on the Summerfest grounds, I know there are certain food staples that most fair goers indulge in including the Saz’s sampler platter. Loading up on mozzarella sticks, cheese curds and french fries are not something anyone should do on a regular basis but for those 10 days of Summerfest most Milwaukeeans will take the chance to indulge. Because of their delicious fair food it’s sometimes surprising to couples that Saz’s does a great job of going beyond their more casual menu of curds and ribs to cater to a whole…

Jaxie Bridal

Brides are always coming to me and saying that they want something different and unique for their wedding day. Usually, the first things that come to their minds are trendy table designs or a fun location but I also like to suggest adding something unique and fun to the bride’s couture. Sure the dress is probably new but accessories can add that extra special wow factor when they are carefully planned out as opposed to being an afterthought. One of my new favorite Milwaukee designers is Jackie Barutha, owner and designer of Jaxie Bridal. The original Jaxie was started in…

Pantone 2012 Color of the Year

If you’ve noticed a barrage of orange when you’ve been clicking through the bridal blogs this spring you’ve caught on to the influence of Pantone, a company that each year since 1999 has declared a “Color of the Year”. When Tangerine Tango was announced last December there was an immediate splash of citrus in all areas of design including the wedding industry. Pantone is said to select the color based on the spirit of the times so more thought goes into the selection than simply spinning a color wheel. This year’s shade is described as “a spirited reddish color” that…
