Wednesday, Dec. 4: The Traveling Suitcase with Animals In Human Attire and The Thriftones @ Tonic Tavern, 9 p.m.
Tonic Tavern hosts a night of locals as part of its reoccurring Love Local Live Wednesday music series. Milwaukeeans are probably already familiar with Animals In Human Attire and The Thriftones, but The Traveling Suitcase, a rock three-piece from Oshkosh making a name for itself around Wisconsin (they’ll open for Local H at Shank Hall Dec. 28), is a newer face in these parts. Fans of Cursive and Cold War Kids will like the band’s dark, moody rock.
Also: The Audacity with Holy Shit! and Phylums @ Quarters, 9 p.m.
And: Phil Vassar @ Northern Lights Theater at Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 8 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 5: 88Nine RadioMilwaukee Music Awards @ Studio Milwaukee, 6:30 p.m.
The annual RadioMilwaukee awards show, which recognizes the best local music of 2013, will be held in the station’s rad new Walker’s Point digs. Along with dolling out coveted trophies for Album of the Year, Band of the Year and the like, there will be live performances from Fever Marlene, Greg Koch Band and more.
Also: The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! with Rio Turbo, Faux Fir and DJ Max Holiday @ Mad Planet, 9 p.m.
And: Sheryl Crow @ The Riverside Theater, 7 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 6: Utech Records Music Festival II @ Cactus Club, 7 p.m.
For 10 years, Milwaukee’s Utech Records (helmed by graphic designer Keith Utech) has been releasing noise and experimental music from around the globe. The second installment of the label’s music festival brings together a diverse group of musicians at Cactus Club Friday, including Sum of R from Switzerland, Suzuki Junzo from Japan, and Milwaukee’s own Jon Mueller. New releases from Sum of R and Junzo will be available, as well as an extremely limited cassette from The Netherlands’ sax/drum duo Dead Neanderthals.
Also: The Delta Routine with Sugarman and Ivy Spokes @ Linneman’s, 9 p.m.
And: MC Mikal with Higher Education, Dana Coppafeel, Speak Easy and Dismukes @ Riverwest Public House, 9 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 7: Twin Brother with Hello Death, Old Earth and Ghostnotes @ Cactus Club, 9:30 p.m.
A constellation of moody folk acts will take the stage Saturday at Cactus for Twin Brother’s EP release. The local trio let loose the excellent new track “Blood, Money And Treason” in November and will embark on a Midwest tour with pal Old Earth this week. Saturday’s show will be a brief homecoming before the band heads to Rockville, Ill., for a Daytrotter session.
Also: Milo with Oculi and Safari Al @ Mad Planet, 9 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 8: Dikes of Holland with No Bueno and DJ Andy Junk
Everything’s bigger in Texas, and maybe faster and louder, too, if Austin garage punks Dikes of Holland are any indication. They’ll maraud Quarters Sunday night with locals No Bueno to properly fray the edges on a busy weekend.
