Monday, April 9: Folding Line Trio @ Bremen Cafe, 9 p.m.
Riverwest jazz outfit Folding Line Trio breaks up the early week monotony a bit with an unusual Monday night show at the Bremen Cafe. These Riverwest locals will crank out an interesting fusion of jazz and electronic music to the usual ladies night crowd. (901 E. Clarke St., bremencafe.com)
Tuesday, April 10: The Flatliners with DIRECT HIT! and Dead & Dirty @ Frank’s Power Plant, 9:30 p.m. ($10)
Of all of the Canadian ska punk bands I know (I know one), Ontario’s The Flatliners is probably my favorite. In all seriousness, though, these guys are punk defined. Loud, brash and fully dedicated to a life of spending endless hours in vans and dive bars, The Flatliners represent what the diy punk lifestyle used to mean before it was officially sponsored by Vans. Milwaukee’s own DIRECT HIT! (who are no slouches themselves) open the show. (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., FranksPowerPlant.Angelfire.com)
Wednesday, April 11: Juniper Tar with The Trapper Schoepp Band and Black Eagle Child @ The Hotel Foster, 8 p.m.
It’s week three of four in Juniper Tar’s “First Waltz” series at The Hotel Foster. In anticipation of the release of the band’s upcoming album Since Before, Milwaukee’s most creative marketers have been holding down the fort every Wednesday with the assistance of special guest artists. This week finds members of The Trapper Schoepp Band and Black Eagle Child joining the boys on stage. (2028 E. North Ave., thehotelfoster.com)
Thursday, April 12: Pamplemousse Theater Benefit! featuring Jeanna Salzer Trio with The Directionals and Bo Johnson @ Cactus Club, 7 p.m.
Spring benefit show fever is in the air on Thursday. Along with the Mad Planet’s benefit for Sean Williamson’s feature film “Heavy Hands,” the Cactus Club will play fundraising host for the Pamplemousse Theater, a burgeoning theater company run solely by women. The group has tabbed one of the city’s finest female-led groups, the always-impressive Jeanna Salzer Trio, to whip the crowd into a spending frenzy for the silent auction, which will be held throughout the evening. Friday, April 13: Rodrigo Y Gabriela with C.U.B.A. and Bobby Long @ Riverside Theater, 7 p.m. ($39.50 – $45)Perhaps because of rock ‘n’ roll’s unearthly embrace of all things macabre and demonic, Friday the 13th’s always seem to be great nights for live music. And tonight is no different with amazing local bands all over town and a magnificent duo of world travelers at the Riverside. Though they are categorized as Latin jazz, Mexican acoustic guitar virtuosos Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero each relentlessly shred the classical guitar in ways that would make even the most hardcore metal head take notice. And for the first time, the duo will be playing with a backing band in order to fully reproduce songs off of its latest album, the incredible Area 52. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., PabstTheater.org)

MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Sunday, April 15: Death Cab for Cutie featuring the Magik*Magik Orchestra with Low @ Riverside Theater, 7 p.m. ($29.50 – $43.75)
You won’t find a much more influential indie rock band from the past decade or so than Washington’s Death Cab for Cutie. And even though the band technically “sold out” to the major label man years ago, Ben Gibbard and the boys have managed to maintain their indie cred throughout by releasing classic album after classic album of emotionally charged alternative magic. The band’s latest Codes and Keys featured gorgeous collaborative moments with Magik*Magik Orchestra, who’s presence at this show should bring an added dimension of beauty to all of the band’s hits this time around. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., PabstTheater.org)
Also: Ari Herstand with Dan Rodriguez @ Miramar Theatre, 8 p.m. ($10/$14)
