It’s not every day hippos take up charitable causes, but as of yesterday, mother-daughter duo Patti and Puddles at the Milwaukee County Zoo are teaming up to tackle hemophilia. The hippos will serve as the official “spokes animals” for the 2012 Hemophilia Walk, working to raise money and awareness for those who suffer from bleeding disorders in Wisconsin.
“We are very excited that the Hemophilia Walk will be visiting our home,” the hippos were quoted as saying in a press release. (How did the hippos learn to talk? We don’t know.) These hippos don’t haggle, either. Milwaukee’s walk is a free event, though donations are requested.
Participants can see the two “spokes animals” in person at the walk on Sept. 29 at the Milwaukee County Zoo. Wisconsin walkers have two other options earlier in the month in Fox Valley and in Madison.
If you are interested in joining the “Hippo Herd,” you can visit the Hemophilia Walk page for more information.
