Wauwatosa native Grace Weber is no stranger to the Summerfest stage. She’s played it three times before, but this year is a little different, she says.
“This time around, you would notice how much we’ve grown the past year as a band,” she says. “It just feels good to think we’ve really arrived.”
Weber attributes that to the band’s new album and their extensive touring schedule this year.
“We just came out with a new album, and we have brand new songs that aren’t even on that album – we’ve been writing like crazy,” she says. “This is the first year I’ve started touring heavily. This month I’ve been touring basically the whole month. I’ve broken through the wall of any performance anxiety. Everything we perform, it’s just on. We just have such a great time.”
Although the singer/songwriter currently lives in Brooklyn, she says coming home to Milwaukee is always great. “Milwaukee is where my biggest base is. It’s good to know that there are people rooting for me. Milwaukee is where everything is sprouting from.”
This year has been especially good for Weber. Last September, she released her debut album Hope & Heart. In January, Starbucks picked her song “Baby Come Down” to add to its playlist for its stores. An at Summerfest tonight, she will open for Gavin DeGraw at the new BMO Harris Pavilion.
Weber says to expect a whole lot of ups and downs with tonight’s live set. Think big band arrangements, rock and soul and some quieter moments with just Weber, a piano and a guitar.
