Monday, Sept. 3: IfIHadAHifi at Y-Not III, 9 p.m.
It’s fitting that IfIHadAHifi—a band that’s been laboring on stages throughout Wisconsin since the mid-90s—is playing what seems to be Milwaukee’s only Labor Day show. Not relying on its longevity alone, the seasoned noise-pop outfit seems to be getting better with age, as its Nada Surf EP +3 shows the best Hifi to date. Monogamy Party and Bicentennial Rub open. (1854 E. Kenilworth Pl.)
Tuesday, Sept. 4: Sigmund Snopek at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. (FREE)
It’s a Tuesday and there’s not much going on in the way of music. You know what that means; you’re up, Snopek! But the Brew City troubadour has a standing Tuesday night gig at Linneman’s for a reason. The accomplished multi-instrumentalist has been an ever-changing yet-ever-present fixture in Milwaukee music for more than three decades. His regular playing schedule may leave him susceptible to being buried in our show listings, but give him a chance. You might like what you hear. (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)
Also: Isle Of Rhodes, The Appalachians, and The Fossils at Frank’s Power Plant, 9:30 p.m. ($5) – (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., FranksPowerPlant.Angelfire.com)
Thursday, Sept. 6: Center Street Relief Benefit at Riverwest Public House, 9 p.m. ($5)
After a five-alarm fire engulfed 631 E. Center St. and the studio spaces of numerous local artists within in July, the community came to the aid of the artists impacted by the blaze. Between a gallery night, a call for gift card donations and a benefit art auction, some good managed to rise from the ashes. The art-centric charity continues Thursday as the likes of Allen Cote, Rob Ernest and Sam Russell combine forces to benefit Riverwest artists with their music. (815 E. Locust St., RiverwestPublicHouse.WordPress.com)
Also: Daniel And The Lion, Phox, Sonntag, The Boom Forest Orchestra, and Jesse Frewerd at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 8 p.m. ($5) – (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)
Friday, Sept. 7: Yellowphone Music Conference at Various Venues
As part of the Yellow Phone Music Conference – which schools aspiring musicians on steps to building their brand… or something – a plethora of talented area bands are taking the stage at a menagerie of local venues. Herman Astro will play at Milwaukee Ale House; The Cranberry Show will go on at MOCT, while Readygoes is set to play Wicked Hop.
Also: Soup Moat, Spur, Lamb’s Legs, Milorganaut, Phoned Nil Trio, Band From Studio 3, Hate Shrinez at Borg Ward, 6 p.m. – (823 W. National Ave.)
And: Thunders, Revenge Society, Liar’s Trial at Quarter’s Rock ‘N Roll Palace, 9 p.m. – (900 E. Center St.)
MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Saturday, Sept. 8: Hugh Bob & The Hustle and The Championship at Cactus Club, 10 p.m.
Featuring frontman Hugh Masterson and fellow Wildbirds Nicholas Stuart and Brad Kruse, along with other noted local musicians Justin Krol (Hot Coffin) and Quinn Scharber (pretty much everything else), Hugh Bob & The Hustle has quickly become one of Milwaukee’s favorite bands. This show is made even more special as the alt-country outfit will celebrate the release of its self-titled debut album. Newly reunited The Championship, who has a great new album of its own, High Feather, on the way soon (trust us, review to come), will open up the must-see local show. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)
Also: Sulek, Devil Met Contention and Chelsea Foote at Art Bar, 9 p.m. – (722 E. Burleigh St., http://artbar-riverwest.com)
And: Yellow Phone Music Conference w/Ikarus Down, Kid Cut Up, Kane Place Record Club, Cameron Jane And 86 Black, and more) at Wicked Hop, Milwaukee Ale House, Moct Bar.
Sunday, September 9: Wet Nurse at Quarter’s Rock ‘N Roll Palace, 9 p.m.
Orlando, Fla.’s Wet Nurse is your typical twin sister-fronted, all-female garage rock band. Siblings Nina and Susana Chaplin, along with drummer Vanessa Brewster, are just days into a month-long tour in support of the trio’s new Daily Whatever LP that finds Wet Nurse playing 24 dates in 15 different states (and one district!) in the span. Come celebrate a Packers win by letting three nice young ladies knock you on your butt with a flurry of pop-tinged punk songs. Jetty Boys and Dads also play. (900 E. Center St.)
