This is it: my first blog post. With this blog, “Extraordinarily Ordinary: Parenting”, I hope to share some of my own personal experiences and the stories and experiences of some of the parents I’ve interviewed for stories I do as a freelance writer. There are so many great stories out there, so many amazing experiences, confounding issues and fascinating ideas, there has to be room for one more blog about parenting, especially one that attempts to focus on parenting in Milwaukee.
I love being a parent and I think my children are spectacular, of course. However, I’m aware that there are millions of parents in the world and the vast majority also think their children are spectacular. That’s why I chose to call this blog, “Extraordinarily Ordinary: Parenting.” Lots and lots of people are in this same tumultuous boat filled with diapers and drooly kisses, teething and temper tantrums, first steps, first words and first dates. Lots and lots of us hope we’re doing the right thing and pray we don’t do too many of the wrong things. Parenting is amazing and enlightening and it’s also something people have been doing for more than 150 thousand years. Yes, we all think we have the greatest kids, the toughest challenges, the funniest and most touching stories. Billions of others have had the same thoughts. Parenting is extraordinary. It’s also really pretty ordinary.
