Clothing- It’s All About the Texture

This fall, texture is going to be the dominant force! You’ll see fur, feathers, braiding, curls, wood, lots of knitwear (knitwear will be HUGE) over sized cowl necks, crochet pieces, mile long scarves, and mile high eyelashes. What’s beautiful about this texture? The shock value of it being paired with it’s opposite: shiny patent leather boots, metallic nails, nude glossy lips, and polished bright bangles stacked up the arm. Textured bangles at Next Door starting at $18 Clothing will be layered with lace, wrinkled cotton, smooth white t’s etc… I loved my co-worker’s (Amanda Frank) look when she came in…

At my salon, Carenza we are noticing a trend movement towards a highlighting technique called “ombre” where highlights are purposely placed to have a grown out/lived in look.

And of course, feathers are everywhere and we love it!!

Lyneé Ruiz started her career in beauty as a salon hairstylist at Carenza in Brookfield. Seven years later, she signed as a hair and makeup artist for Ford Models in Chicago and Miami. While her job consists of being on sets for advertising, editorial, TV, and backstage at New York Fashion Week, Milwaukee will always be home. Writing about tips and tricks she learns along the way for Milwaukee Magazine is one of her favorite creative outlets.
