If you’re looking for the best place for makeup and education, look no further. Blush (A Beauty Boutique) has been one of the most well-known spots for makeup and skincare, and with their success they’ve opened up a second boutique located on West Mequon Road, in Mequon. At their grand opening last weekend the place was a buzz with excitement. It had a bit of a different feel from the mothership located in the Third Ward, with its elegant crystal chandeliers, white woodwork and cow-hide rug. I had a moment to sit down with the owner of the new location, Jhousy Leon, and discuss why Blush is the place to go for your makeup and skincare needs.
Fashionista: We finally meet! I’m ecstatic to speak to you about all this excitement and to-die-for products! Tell us, first of all, what separates Blush from other makeup businesses?
Jhousy: Our education. We are a teaching facility. I hated the feeling I had in past years where I would leave a makeup counter and wonder if they were just trying to sell me something, even if it didn’t make a difference. Here we look at everything that will help you, and teach you how to use it correctly.
F: What about your products, what makes them different from widely used brands in most department stores?
J: Well first of all, before the products are brought in to Blush, our team tests them for 6-9 months. We keep records of how we felt about the results. We also carry lines that are very rare to find, especially around here.
F: Give us some examples.
J: We were the first boutique to carry Laura Mercier in the area. We had it before anyone knew what it was. Smashbox is one of our favorites. We are really proud to have just picked up Kevyn Aucoin’s line. The colors and the feel of the makeup are unlike any other.
F: Kevyn Aucoin was one of the most revolutionary forces in makeup of our time. What do you want people who are unfamiliar with his work to know about the product line?
J: Aucoin was known for his shading and contouring. So of course having the correct tools are very important. His brush line that we carry is amazing and allows you to apply the makeup flawlessly. The makeup, as I said before, has beautiful colors. It’s long lasting and extremely photogenic, and a very hard line to find!
F: What about men, is there something here for them?
J: Absolutely! Half of our clients are men, looking for the correct way to care for their skin. I mean, sometimes they say the products are for their wives… but we really know what the truth is.
Not only does Blush teach you how to correctly apply makeup, but they have “Teaching Facials” where they show you step-by-step how to care for your specific skin, and why. It’s the perfect place to go before a night out or for a special look, and you’ll learn how do it in the process. Jhousy along with partner and
founder of Blush, Sarah Brucker, say they have plans for the future and we can’t wait too see what’s next.
