Bavette owner Karen Bell has had great weather these last several weeks for her weekly Burger Night at the Third Ward butcher shop (330 E. Menomonee St., 414-273-3375). Every Wednesday night (5-9 p.m.), the Bavette staff fires up the grill out on the sidewalk patio and offers up a burger dressed a little different each week. “Different,” meaning the toppings change. Last Wednesday, the grass-fed beef burger came with goat cheddar, roasted Swiss chard and chipotle blueberry jam. Tonight (July 30), it’s topped with kale, truffled mushroom duxelle, roasted grapes and roasted onions. And it’s served with mac and cheese. My burger was medium-rare and came on a toasted Breadsmith bun. The best burger I’ve had in months. Check it out before Burger Night goes into hibernation. (Storm-free) Wednesday night only, through summer.
