Four schools around Milwaukee are particularly excited about the incredible efforts of their art students. Check out this round up of top Milwaukee universities, institutions and colleges gearing up to show off 2017 senior exhibitions.
Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD)
The institution’s biggest exhibit of the year takes place at the end of the month. Come and see the work of over 100 senior students, representing every major and discipline, as they show off their capstone projects. The Opening Reception on Spring Gallery Night is Friday, April 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. Exhibits will stay open throughout the MIAD galleries until May 13. This year’s exhibitions include creative products and subscription box ideas with the potential to be future best-sellers!
Peck School of the Arts @ UW-Milwaukee
With such a large school for the arts, UW-Milwaukee presents senior exhibitions throughout the whole month of May. From May 3 to May 20, join the PSOA’s Art and Design Department for the Spring 2107 BFA Exhibition and BA Poster Session. Students’ work is to be held in the Arts Center Gallery, open Wed-Thurs, 10 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and Sun, 1-5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
Explore the work of UWM’s graduate art students at their Spring 2017 MA/MFA Exhibition: “8”, beginning with a panel discussion Friday, May 12 from 4:30-7 p.m. An Exhibition Reception will take place the following Friday, May 19 from 5-8 p.m. Student’s work will be held in the Kenilworth Square East Gallery from May 12 to June 3 with hours on Thurs, 1-7 p.m., Fri, 3-8 p.m., and Sat, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Filmmaking is no quick process, and neither is UWM’s Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres 2017 Spring Showcase. Spanning over two nights, from May 18-19, join the graduating seniors at the UWM Union Cinema in viewing the completed work of each film student. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. both nights and conclude around 9 p.m.
Just a few days later, join MFA Candidates of the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres for the Spring 2017 MFA Screening. On May 21 at the Union Cinema, graduate film students will showcase their own work via the big screen from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mount Mary University
Every year, Mount Mary University showcases student work through a designer fashion show called CREO (Latin for “to make, create, produce”). The live production is put together by Mary Mount’s University fashion design and merchandise management students with a little help from Milwaukee’s best production professionals. CREO 2017 takes place on Friday, May 5 at Turner Hall Ballroom. Showtimes are 1:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (reception to follow).
Alverno College
With just a handful of graduate artists, Alverno College will host graduate exhibition, Uncharted Waters, beginning April 21 to May 5. The art featured in the exhibition will represent each woman’s style and growth. Congratulate the artists while admiring their artwork at the opening reception on Friday, April 21 from 4:30-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Uncharted Waters will be located in Alverno Art and Cultures Gallery in Alexia Hall. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 12-5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday from 12-7 p.m.
