7 Beer Events Brewing in Milwaukee This Week: Jan. 20-23

It’s a big week for big beers highlighted by an outstanding tap list at The Brass Tap and a few limited releases. There are plenty of winter warmers to choose from.

Wednesday, Jan. 20

The Happy Domes officially open this week at Third Space Brewing (1505 W. St. Paul Ave.). Four to six adults can reserve one of four private outdoor geodesic domes and enjoy Third Space brews for 90 minutes.

Friday, Jan. 22

The Brass Tap (7808 W. Layton Ave.) is celebrating its sixth anniversary in style. As of now, the amazing tap list includes 52 beers, with many being barrel-aged rarities. The tapping of these impressive beers starts at 11 a.m. and continues through Saturday.

1840 Brewing (342 E. Ward St.) as a big release over the weekend. Mexican Drinking Chocolate is back. The stout is made with cacao, Mexican coffee, Mexican vanilla beans, cinnamon and chili peppers. There’s also a barrel aged variant that spent 14 months in bourbon barrels. Presale is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pickup at 1840 Brewing is from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Ten of the area’s best breweries are teaming up for Winter Whales, a virtual beer fest highlighting some rare brews. The fest itself is on Zoom at 7 p.m., but the beers that pair with the event are on sale now until Thursday at 10 p.m. and available for pickup at MobCraft Beer (505 S. 5th St.) starting Friday at 1 p.m. Participating breweries are 1840 Brewing, Fermentorium, Gathering Place, Indeed, Lakefront, MobCraft, Sahale, Stock House, Supermoon and Third Space.

Pickup of the latest Deconstructed Dessert Series beer, Mocha Pie: The Coffee happens at Third Space Brewing at noon. Also on Saturday, presale starts for the final variant in series. The Mocha Pie is a barrel-aged imperial stout flavored with chocolate, vanilla, graham cracker and coffee. It’s available for pickup on Saturday, Feb. 6, and on that day Third Space plans to tap a keg of each of the six variants so you can try them in a flight. Great idea.

Gathering Place Brewing (811 E. Vienna Ave.) has a pair of beers being released at 2 p.m. Murdered by Crows Coffee Rye Stout and Storm and Stress Schwarzbier are both available in cans and on tap. Also, from 4 to 7 p.m., Braise on the Boulevard will be serving food.

Hacienda Beer Co. (2018 E. North Ave.) releases Soul Memory Black Lager at noon. Preorder starts Wednesday at 5 p.m.
