WONDERING WHY everyone you know keeps talking about pickleball lately? This court-style game, played with paddles on a badminton-style court, is a lower-intensity alternative to tennis. Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned player, here some courts in the Milwaukee area to check out to get in on the pickleball fun.
1. Riverwalk Commons
423 N WATER ST. | 2 COURTS
Ever wanted to play sports under a road overpass? The Riverwalk Commons has the two pickleball courts for you. Located near the Milwaukee Public Market, you can play a quick game before exploring the Third Ward. Make sure to bring your own equipment.
Join Milwaukee Magazine and Quad for the third-annual Unity Awards Event on March 8 from 6:30-9 p.m. at GATHER in the Deer District.
2. Juneau Park
66th & BLUEMOUND | 6 COURTS
Located near Lake Michigan, these courts are next to a great view of greenery and some tennis courts. Just bring some friends and equipment and get ready to have some fun.
3. Sijan Pickleball & Tennis Courts
2800-2898 S CALIFORNIA ST. | 2 COURTS
This is definitely a BYON – bring your own net – court, but that won’t get in the way of any pickleball fun. Open to the public, this place is a good place to hang out with friends and hit the pickleball around.
4. Valley View Park
5051 S. SUNNY SLOPE RD, NEW BERLIN | 6 COURTS
These newly-completed courts are a great place to play singles or doubles games. Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, you can come down to the courts between 8 and 10:30 a.m. New Berlin residents pay $12, and non-residents pay $18.
5. Liberty Heights Park
1540 S 62nd ST, WEST ALLIS | 2 COURTS
Looking for a fun crew to play pickleball with? Every Sunday at 10 a.m., a group of players – both new and experienced – meet up to dominate two old tennis courts. You can use these meetups to connect with other players!
6. Banting Park
2101 BUTLER DR, WAUKESHA | 9 COURTS
Open all year round, these wide courts give you plenty of space to show off your (burgeoning or established) pickleball skills. There are 8 permanent pickleball courts and one tennis court that can be transformed into a ninth. If you’re playing on the tennis court, be sure to bring a portable pickleball net.
