Milwaukee Magazine has received 10 nominations in the 89th Annual Milwaukee Press Club Awards for Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition and three nominations in the City and Regional Magazine Association’s national awards competition, including the coveted General Excellence category.
Veteran dining critic Ann Christenson’s March 2018 feature story, “Eat Like a Wisconsinite,” is a finalist in both competitions.
The Press Club Awards recognize outstanding journalism in Wisconsin from 2018. This year’s contest garnered more than 800 entries from throughout Wisconsin in professional and collegiate categories. The competition was judged by professional journalists from press clubs throughout the U.S. Last year, Milwaukee Magazine brought home three gold awards and one bronze award.
The National City and Regional Magazine Award nominations are selected by magazine professionals from around the country from work published in 2018. Magazines of varying circulations competed in 34 categories, including editorial, design, online, multiplatform storytelling and general excellence.
In addition to “Eat Like a Wisconsinite” in the Food or Dining Feature Package category, the CRMA nominated Milwaukee Magazine for its annual Weddings magazine in the category for ancillary bridal publications. Its General Excellence nomination comes in the tier for magazines with circulation between 30,000 and 60,000.
“The magazine hit its stride in 2018, with an outstanding team of editors and designers,” says Carole Nicksin, editor-in-chief and publisher of Milwaukee Magazine. “We are very proud of what we’ve accomplished, and receiving this recognition from our peers is icing on the cake. In particular, being a finalist in the CRMA’s General Excellence category, alongside admirable titles such as D Magazine and Indianapolis Monthly, is an honor. While our main goal is to create a publication that serves our community, it is great to get this type of nod from the publishing community.”
Winners of the Milwaukee Press Club’s awards will be announced May 10 at the club’s Gridiron Dinner at The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. Winners of the City and Regional Magazine Awards will be announced at CRMA’s annual conference May 18-20 in Minneapolis.
