Who takes first place for dining al fresco in Milwaukee? Our readers have spoken.
This is one of our most interesting categories to watch from year to year since the desire to dine al fresco is paramount, and new restaurants have recently made impressive leaps in patio design and location (hello, rooftop!). And one can never predict how the masses will vote – for old tried-and-trues or the new kids on the block.
Proving that height is a positive attribute for a patio, two of our top vote-getters have rooftop spaces and Third Ward locations – number-one Cafe Benelux (346 N. Broadway), which has outdoor seating on the surrounding sidewalk and rooftop, and number-three The Outsider at the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel (310 E. Chicago St., ninth floor). The Outsider is a smashing rooftop space with its own menus of cocktails, snacks and pizzas.
Number-two Barnacle Bud’s (1955 S. Hilbert St.) has been in the top three for years, owing to its picnic-like Bay View oasis that feels like you’re an hour from Downtown, not five minutes’ drive.
