17 Things to Do in Milwaukee This March

Taste of MKE, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, National Geographic Live and more make our list.

1. World Premiere Wisconsin

MARCH 1-JUNE 30 | MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

March marks the kickoff of this statewide festival celebrating new plays and musicals around Wisconsin. On tap locally is Renaissance Theaterworks’ Tidy, a mystery play inspired by The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (March 24-April 16); the Florentine Opera’s modern take on Mozart and Da Ponte’s Così fan tutte: REMIX (March 17-26); and Milwaukee Chamber Theatre’s HOOPS (March 10-April 2), all about the cultural significance of hoop earrings. That’s just a peek at this month’s lineup, which includes 12 shows in and beyond Milwaukee.

Artists and friends of Latino Arts consider the maternal relationships in their lives at this multidisciplinary exhibition. The visuals will reflect on the stories of these relationships, both positive and negative. latinoartsinc.org

Fletcher looks at the macro side with landscape paintings, while Musolff explores the micro with her brushstrokes, creating plants, root systems and more. 4. Women and Girls in Science

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Wehr Nature Center is celebrating the work of women pioneers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). There will be children’s science activities and opportunities to connect with women working locally in these fields. The event is recommended for youngsters ages 10 and up. friendsofwehr.org

5. Shamrock Shuffle

MARCH 4 | MULTIPLE NEIGHBORHOODS

This annual bar crawl brings thousands of people to the city each year to celebrate the Irish holiday with drinks, food and music. The event takes you through four streets and neighborhoods: Water Street, Martin Luther King Drive, Walker’s Point and Brady Street. The organizer also hosts a St. Patrick’s-themed 4K race called the Jig Jog along the lakefront the morning of the shuffle. swarmmevents.com

6. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Relive the “Glory Days” with Bruce Springsteen. The rock legend will be in town for an arena performance along with his longtime backers the E Street Band. It’s the superstar’s first tour since 2017. fiservforum.com

7. August Wilson’s Seven Guitars 

MARCH 7-APRIL 2 | MILWAUKEE REP

Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton is a struggling singer in 1940s Pittsburgh when a major recording studio offers him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He grapples with the question: “What would you do for a chance to live out your dream?” milwaukeerep.com

8. Taste of MKE

MARCH 9 | ITALIAN COMMUNITY CENTER

Twenty local restaurants host tastings at this event, which is in its 41st year. The “flavor showcase” is also a fundraiser for Broadscope Disability Services, which assists with independent living, employment and other programs for people with disabilities. broadscope.org

9. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports Show

MARCH 9-12 | WISCONSIN STATE FAIR PARK

This over-100-vendor exhibition celebrates fishing, hunting and more with a 5,000-gallon aquarium, a fastest retriever contest, a trophy deer contest and more. The Timberworks Lumberjacks will also be putting on a show with chainsaws and axes. jssportsshow.com

10. St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Did you know Milwaukee is home to one of the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country? The first street celebration was in 1843. Today, the parade celebrating Irish heritage begins on Wisconsin Avenue. saintpatricksparade.org

11. Pro Bull Riders Invitational

12. National Geographic Live: View From Above

MARCH 16 | UIHLEIN HALL

Former International Space Station commander Terry Virts took hours of video and thousands of images from the station’s 360-degree viewing module during his long career. He’ll be in Milwaukee to narrate his observations and stories from 220 miles above Earth. marcuscenter.org

13. One Trick Pony Vintage Pop-Up

14. Hunchback of Notre Dame

MARCH 23-26 | MARCUS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

Travel to Paris and watch the story of the fictional faces of Notre Dame Cathedral in this ballet. The costumes and set design promise to be almost as stunning as the dancers’ performances. milwaukeeballet.org

15. “Impractical Jokers” Live

MARCH 25 | MILLER HIGH LIFE THEATRE

Watch three grown men compete to embarrass each other in front of strangers at the “Impractical Jokers” live tour. The trio will share behind-the-scenes stories from their reality TV show, tell the audience about their backstory and perform standup sets. pabsttheatergroup.com

16. Brahms v. Radiohead

Ever wonder what it would be like to blend Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 with Radiohead’s groundbreaking 1997 album, OK Computer? Probably not, but the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra will answer that question for you anyway with help from guest vocalists and the full symphony. mso.org

Immerse yourself in the work of 10 emerging Wisconsin artists who represent the next generation to watch.
