14 Beer Events Brewing in Milwaukee This Week: Feb. 28-March 3

Component Brewing has a big week, with two events supporting the National Organization for Rare Disorders.

Wednesday, Feb. 28

1840 Brewing Company (342 E. Ward St.) is releasing Bend Over Bockwards, a 6.9% ABV bock, and Turtlator, a doppelbock that weighs in at 9%. The beers will be on tap at West Bend’s Bockfest as well (see below).

Bock Fest is coming to Three Cellars (N72 W13400 Lund Ln., Menomonee Falls). August Schell Brewing will be there and at 4 p.m. Three Cellars will be “poking” beers with a red-hot poker to caramelize the sugars.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

Thursday, Feb. 29

Sahale Ale Works (1515 Wisconsin Ave.) celebrates Leap Day with an amazing beer release starting at 4 p.m. The Leap Beer is a barleywine that has spent four years in four different barrels. The elixir spent time in rum, rye whiskey, cherry brandy and Cognac barrels. There are just 100 hand-numbered bottles available and a limited amount will be on draft. Feb. 29 is a rare occurrence indeed.

Leap Day festivities are happening at Third Space Brewing (1505 W. St. Paul Ave.) too. They’ll be bringing back Java Blanca, the taste coffee cream ale. Be sure to wear yellow and blue.

Zebra Hop is being released at Component Brewing (2018 S. 1st St.). The hazy IPA benefits the National Organization for Rare Disorders. Rare disorders are an important cause for co-owner Jonathan Kowalske, whose son Mac was diagnosed with Malan Syndrome.

Friday, March 1

The Women’s Beer and Spirits Collective kicks off Women’s Month with an event at Izzy Hops Swig & Nosh (1930 E. North Ave.) at 6 p.m. Several great breweries will be represented and matching the $1 per pint donation that Izzy Hops is giving to Sojourner Family Peace Center.

Try samples from Toppling Goliath at Discount Liquor Waukesha (919 N. Barstow St.) from 3 to 6 p.m.

Saturday, March 2

Bockfest is debuting in West Bend. The German beer fest runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Regner Park (800 N Main St., West Bend). The event costs just $15 and includes beer from 1840 Brewing, live music and German food.

New Barons Brewing Co-op (2018 S. 1st St.), along with the Milwaukee Beer Barons Rugby Club, is releasing Scrum Daddy, a South African oat lager. The beer will start flowing at 6 p.m.

Hacienda Beer Co. ()2018 E. North Ave.) is releasing Everything Eventually, a juicy pale ale made with Citra and Azacca hops.

Discount Liquor Waukesha is handing out samples from MobCraft beer from noon to 2 p.m.

Sunday, March 3

Component Brewing is hitting the road and bringing Zebra Hop to TruBrüe Homebrew Supplies (14260 W. National Ave.) for a block party. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be food, live music and fun for the kids. A portion of the proceeds benefit NORD.

Heirloom MKE (2378 S. Howell Ave.) hosts a beer dinner with Revolution Brewing to celebrate Women’s Month. The four-course dinner is $60 and all of the proceeds benefit Sojourner Family Peace Center. That’s right, 100%. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m.

Torzala Brewing (2018 S. 1st St.) teams up with its Lincoln Warehouse neighbor Bust-N-Stuff for Bust-N-Stigmas, a fundraiser for suicide prevention. Tickets are $40 and include a 20-minute Bust-N-Art session and a beverage to help you be creative. It all happens from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
