10 Things to Do in Milwaukee This Weekend: Oct. 22-24

Film, book and Halloween festivals make this a packed weekend for Milwaukeeans.

1.  Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival

This weekend is the sixth-annual Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival, an event committed to discovering and sharing thought-provoking films from around the world. Expect films on topics that are timely, relevant and generate meaningful discussion about Muslim people and the Muslim world. 

2. Wisconsin Book Festival Fall Celebration

THURSDAY-SUNDAY | VIRTUAL

If reading is more up your alley, you should check out at least one of the events going on at this year’s Wisconsin Book Festival. During the weekend there are loads of in-person events in Madison, but if you don’t feel like making the drive, there’s a robust list of virtual options as well. Award-winning educator and historian Carol Anderson and intrepid journalist and science writer Mary Roach are just two of the noteworthy speakers in the lineup. 

 3. Bayshore BOOgie Bash and Custome Contest

FRIDAY FROM 5-7 P.M. | 5800 N. BAYSHORE DR.

This family-friendly event will have you dressing up and getting down. Vampires, princesses and superheroes of all ages are invited to hangout and even get the chance to win prizes. With savory treats thanks to local food trucks, a live DJ to unleash your dance moves and even a hay maze, it’s a night full of Halloween fun. Before you hit the hay for the night, be sure to capture a family photo at one of the “not-so-spooky” Halloween displays. 

 

 

4. Public Market Harvest Festival

SATURDAY FROM 11 A.M.-3 P.M. | 423 N. WATER ST.

Did you know that the Milwaukee Public Market is turning 16 this year? They’re celebrating with local food truck eats from Meat on the Street, Press Waffles, Lush Popcorn and more. The party will also include fall-themed activities and games. And of course, there will be the fan-favorite tradition of sampling Lakefront Brewery pumpkin ale tapped from the market’s giant pumpkin, which is reason enough to go.

5. History & Beer Bike Tour: Haunted Milwaukee

SATURDAY FROM 11 A.M.-3 P.M. | 910 N. OLD WORLD 3RD ST.

this bike ride adds in s scary stories and frighteningly good beers for a Halloween adventure. You and your crew are guided through the haunted Oak Leaf Trail while making stops to three local breweries. Depending on where you stop along the trail you’ll either have high spirits or encounter some hair-chilling spirits. 

6. West Bend Community Drive-Thru Pumpkin Patch

SATURDAY FROM 6-10 P.M. | VETERANS AVENUE, DOWNTOWN WEST BEND

With the weather heading into the cooler seasons you may want to take your holiday activities inside. At this event you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your car! Gather up the gang and swing over to the West Bend Pumpkin Patch. During the drive, there will be an abundance of boo-tiful creations made by the community, like glowing craved pumpkins to scary characters.

7. The 5th Annual Brew HaHa

SATURDAY FROM 7-10 P.M. | 700 W. LEXINGTON BLVD. & VIRTUAL

If you have been in search of an event that supports a great cause, then this is the one is for you! The 5th annual Brew Haha is coming to the Bavarian Bierhaus this year, and with their newly integrated virtual show even folks from afar can attend. The event benefits Gigi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center with entertainment from Two Brothers One Mind, German beer and food, a silent auction and more. 

8. Brickworld Milwaukee

SATURDAY-SUNDAY | WISCONSIN STATE FAIR PARK, PRODUCTS PAVILION

Take a day away from all the fall festivities and enter a world created from wild imaginations and thousands of LEGO pieces. Brickworld Milwaukee has tons of displays for you to be in awe over, vendors to enhance your collection, and even interactive activities to build your own. There’s also opportunities for you to win prizes if you enter in any of the contests throughout the day. 

9. Yoga at Third Space Brewing

Sunday’s are for kicking your feet up and relaxing, and the best way to start things off is with a mindful and nourishing yoga class. Either take some time alone to breathe in peace or surround yourself with friends after the class when you enlong your stay at the Third Space Brewing with any one of their wide range of hand-crafted beers brewed right on site. 

10. Glorioso’s Cooking Class: Making Fresh Carbonara

SUNDAY FROM 12:30-3:30 P.M. | 1020 E. BRADY ST.

To top off the weekend, learn how to cook a delicious, fresh meal with a partner or friend. Glorioso’s will hold their sauce foundations class in order to teach you how to whip up the perfect carbonara sauce and from-scratch pasta noodles to go with it. The hands-on cooking experience will be fun, but the best part comes when you get to consume all of your tasty creations at the end.
