Potawatomi’s Canal Street Cafe to Open July 18

Potawatomi’s Canal Street Cafe to Open July 18

The restaurant replaces the hotel’s Locavore, which had opened in 2014.

As announced in May, Locavore, the restaurant at Potawatomi Hotel & Casino (1721 W. Canal St.), has closed. And July 18 is D-day for Canal Street Cafe, the restaurant that replaces it. The new venue follows the broad model of hotel dining: open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serving a wide variety of American-style food. Breakfast includes omelets, steak and eggs, pancakes and waffles ($6.95-$10.95). Lunch features hot sandwiches, burgers, salads, some entrées (spaghetti and meatballs, beef pot pie) and several breakfast-style items ($6.95-$11.95). For dinner, it’s comfort food central: burgers, pot roast, meatloaf, fish fry, chicken-fried steak, chicken schnitzel ($7.95-$18.95).

Locavore, whose kitchen was manned by chef Van Luu (who has since departed Potawatomi), had a seasonal bent and utilized ingredients sourced, as the name suggested, locally.

Canal Street Cafe’s hours: daily 7 a.m.-10 p.m.
