Before you toss back some tequila and tacos on Cinco de Mayo, know what it is you’re celebrating. The 5th of May pays homage to the Mexican victory over the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla. Now it’s time to fiesta!
You can’t think of a Cinco de Mayo celebration in Milwaukee without picturing the succulent Mexican food and icy tequila that BelAir Cantina serves up. Their tacos are on special for $2 all day (while supplies last) and if you’re planning on starting the fiesta in the early hours, BelAir is offering $2 margaritas, $1 Lakefront “My Turn” Evan Mexican Lager and 50-cent Dos Equis from 8-11 a.m. Stop by the Water Street, Downer Avenue or Wauwatosa locations to indulge in that Cinco craving. La Casa de Alberto
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food at some of the best prices in town, head down to La Casa de Alberto in Walker’s Point for your holiday festivities. On top of their rich menu items, which include vast taco varieties and bottomless chips with house made salsa, a two for one beer special will be there to quench your thirst. Entertainment will include live mariachi music from 5-8 p.m., turning dinner time into fiesta time. 624 W. National Ave.

Botanas isn’t settling for a one-day holiday event this year. The restaurant’s 16th anniversary celebration on May 4 will be rolling into a Cinco fiesta the next day. Both days are set to include $20 margarita pitchers and $3 tequila shot specials to help you wash down what you order from their extensive menu, whether it’s specialty enchiladas or a Mexican-seafood creation. La Estacion is offering a lunch buffet, featuring items like carnitas, made-to-order quesadillas and crepes topped with homemade caramel sauce. To wash it down, they’re doing free promotional shots along with other drink specials. There will also be a live DJ, giveaways and doors leading to an open, outdoor patio. 319 Williams St., Waukesha.

Cedarburg Art Museum
If you’re looking to soak up some tequila as well as some knowledge, head down to the Cedarburg Art Museum for a fiesta. The event includes Mexican beer tasting, a professional mixologist blending fresh margaritas and a team of tequila experts serving up Blanco, Reposado and Anejo.
