Charlie Berens, comedian and host of Manitowoc Minute, joined Milwaukee Magazine Editor and Publisher Carole Nicksin for a livestream lunch Wednesday.
Berens talked about his journalism career, his character on Manitowoc Minute and his experience with touring.
“The whole thing about the Manitowoc Minute character is its purpose is to reflect back a comedically heightened version of reality,” Berens said.
Berens also discussed his previous experience as a journalist — in addition to his career in comedy, he won an Emmy in 2013 for an environmental journalism project called “The Cost of Water.”
Berens said that his touring experience has provided the opportunity to learn about new parts of Wisconsin.
“The best thing that I’ve ever done was start touring and doing the live show,” Berens said. “You find out actually which jokes hit in certain places and which jokes don’t.”
