Walk Their Way

With a little help from a famous co-founder, footwear fanatic Eric James is putting his vision to work in the Shorewood sneaker shop Clicks.

Footwear fanatic Eric James knows a good pair of sneakers when he sees it. He’s putting that vision to use in the Shorewood sneaker shop Clicks (1916 E. Capitol Dr.) that he opened with Darryl McDaniels, who put the “D” in pivotal ’80s hip-hop group Run-DMC.

James’ store – its minimalist black and white design lets the shoes speak loudest – offers only Adidas shoes, and Adidas- and Run-DMC-logoed casualwear. More importantly, it sells some of the most hyped sneakers of the year. Rapper Kanye West’s coveted “Yeezy Boost” collection has had a habit of selling out within minutes. In fact, demand can be so high that the store resorts to raffling off its last pairs. Although the Boost craze isn’t unique to Milwaukee, could there be a more fitting home for the rapper-turned-designer’s shoes? Our answer: no.

In a city with few independently owned shoe stores, Clicks is a welcome addition.
