For children and adults, Sky High Gallery is inviting Milwaukeeans to step back in time and
experience a modern trading post – in the form of a tortoise. The Trading
Tortoise is inching its way to Milwaukee on July 5 as part of the Trading
Tortoise tour organized by artists Souther Salazar and Monica Choy. The tour
strives to create a one-of-a-kind community experience across the United States
by connecting people through the sharing of stories and objects.
The public is invited to bring an object to the trading post
and exchange it for something else that was accumulated by the tortoise along
the way. Each item will be documented so that participants can track their
objects online and see where they travel. The website will also feature photos,
videos and artwork gathered from or inspired by the artists’ journey. The
project will end next May in New York City with an art show at Jonathan LeVine
Gallery.
The event will be held outside from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at
2501 S. Howell Ave.
