Timm’s Hill Is the Highest Point in Wisconsin

Climb the observation tower for a 30-mile view of the northwoods.

This view from the lookout tower at Timm’s Hill, situated in a Price County park four hours northwest of Milwaukee, is one of Grandma Moses-like rural calm. As the highest point in the state (standing at 1,951.5 feet), the hill is surrounded by thick forest canopy – which will explode with fall color just a few months from now.

A short, mildly steep path leads from the parking area to an open clearing with the wooden observation tower as its focal point. On a clear day, Rib Mountain in Wausau – once presumed to be the highest spot in the state – is visible from 44 miles away. Timm’s Hill – originally known by its Swedish moniker Ostergren’s Kulle (kulle translates to hill) – also lends its name to 9 miles of nearby trails that connect to the 1,200-mile National Ice Age Trail.
