Bad news. Milwaukee is ranked dead last on this study of the best American cities to be a dog.
Seriously dead last — we got beat out by Louisville and Detroit, and we weren’t even close to Tampa, Orlando, and Las Vegas, the top three.
Honest Paws, a company that makes CBD products for pets (which is kinda amusing), put together the study by grouping nine factors: pet-friendly restaurants, breweries, hotels, beaches, rentals, dog parks, veterinarians and hiking trails per 100,000 people. And then whether or not the state had a breed-specific legislation ban, which means a ban on legislation that discriminates against a specific breed of dog, usually pitbulls and rottweilers. If the city did have that ban, it got a higher rating.

Weighing each of those factors, they came up with a final score for the city.
Tampa secured its top spot with a score of 43.01.
And Milwaukee?
7.23.
Ouch.
Citing the city’s low number of veterinarians and dog parks, as well as a lack of breed-specific legislation bans, Honest Paws dropped us to the bottom.
But there’s reason to be suspicious.
According to the study, Milwaukee only has three veterinarians and three dog parks. A look at Yelp or the Yellow Pages shows that we have more than three veterinarians. The number is closer to ten. The study pulled that info from “BringFido,” a dog travel directory website, and it appears as though it’s not correct.
Also, according to the county website, we have four off-leash dog parks, not three. So with those faults in hand, it looks like Milwaukee might actually not be nearly as bad as this study says.
