On the very latest edition of This Bites (on 88Nine Radio Milwaukee), Tarik and I talk mushrooms, touched off by a story in the April issue of Milwaukee Magazine about mushroom man Mike Jozwik (a.k.a., Mushroom Mike), who supplies restaurants with morels, oyster, lions mane and many other kinds of mushrooms. You don’t have to be a chef to buy from him, either.
We also talk about some different types of mushrooms, and a few of the dinners coming up for morel fans ‒ at Lake Park Bistro on May 23, and a three-course “Morel Madness” dinner special running May 16-18 at the Trout House at Rushing Waters.
On Sunday, April 28, there’s a lumpia-eating contest held Third Space Brewing. Lumpia are Filipino egg rolls. The first person to finish 15 pieces of sriracha pork lumpia, or eats the most in five minutes, is crowned the winner. You can join in as a contestant or just watch it all go down.
Honeypie is in the midst of its spring Pie Lessons, held at the Honeypie Bakeshop Kitchen inside its sister restaurant Palomino. The classes include “Butter Crust and Heirloom Apple Pie” on Sunday, April 28. Classes run 2-4 hours; students will make their own pies to bring home.
