Milwaukee’s Craft Beer Garden at Humboldt Park

Every Friday, Milwaukee’s Craft Beer Garden at Humboldt Park hosts a different local Wisconsin craft brewery to take over the taps. On Friday, August 11, Sand Creek Brewing is making its way to Humboldt Park to get in on the action. Milwaukee’s Craft Beer Garden at Humboldt Park is the perfect way to spend a summer night outside. The beer garden has seating both inside and outside and welcomes pets! You can find more great beer events happening this weekend here.

2017 Milwaukee Dragon Boat Festival

The Milwaukee Chinese Community Center is bringing the Dragon Boat Festival back again this year! The festivities will begin bright and early at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 12 with the first round of dragon boat races. Apart from boat races, the festival will showcase different aspects of Chinese culture and traditions. From traditional Chinese folk music to martial arts and a dragon parade, there is plenty going on throughout the day to keep everyone busy. The festival recently moved locations, so be sure to show up to Lakeshore State Park to take part in the festivities!

Morning Glory Fine Craft Fair

The Morning Glory Fine Craft Fair returns to the grounds of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and Red Arrow Park on Saturday, August 12 through Sunday, August 13. Celebrating its 43rd year, the fair is bringing together top fine craft artists from around the country. Crafts range from museum-quality furniture to bead woven jewelry and hand painted silk scarves. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, leaving more than enough time to scope out the best custom pieces to buy!

Idina Menzel

She’s the voice behind Elsa in Disney’s Frozen and is best known for the hit “Let it Go.” Idina Menzel comes to the Riverside Theater on Sunday, August 13. You may also know her from her starring roles in Wicked, Rent and Glee. Menzel recently released her first studio album since 2014, titled idina., and says its the most personal album she has ever made. Tickets for her performance are still on sale and start at $53.

Family-Friendly

Free Admission at the Milwaukee Public Museum

Enjoy free admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum on Saturday, August 12 thanks to the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Apart from free admission, museum hours will also be extended from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow extra time to explore all of the exhibit favorites, like the Streets of Old Milwaukee and the new addition, Crossroads of Civilization. There will also be free shows and activities offered throughout the day.

Hitting 4 the Cycle

The Brewers Community Foundation is hosting the third annual Hitting 4 the Cycle bike race on Saturday, August 12. The 25 mile route starts and ends at Miller Park, making use of the Hank Aaron State Trail and the Oak Leaf Trail along Lake Michigan. Post-ride, participants can enjoy a tailgate party in the stadium parking lot before making their way inside Miller Park for the Brewers game versus the Reds. While online registration has closed, there will be limited day of registration available on Saturday.

Cooking with Chef Kenneth

Spend the morning learning how cook with a pro! The Mason Street Grill is opening up its kitchen on Saturday, August 12, to treat guests to an exclusive cooking demonstration with Chef Kenneth. The event comes as a teaser for their upcoming Chef’s Counter Series based on the movie ‘Fried Green Tomatoes.’ Chef Kenneth will be whipping up some Smoked Gouda and Poblano Stone Ground Grits, Cajun Remoulade Sauce and Fried Green Tomatoes. Be sure to reserve your seat soon!

Benjamin Percy: The Dark Net

Author, screenwriter and comics writer Benjamin Percy comes to Boswell Book Company on Thursday, August 10 at 7 p.m. to discuss his latest novel, “The Dark Net.” A fast paced and exciting read, “The Dark Net” follows Hannah, her aunt Lena and Mike who become the unlikely heroes to stand against the demons of the Dark Net. Copies of the cyber thriller will be available to purchase at the store.
