15 Things to Do in Milwaukee This Weekend: Jan. 17-19

Get ready for the Goblin King Masquerade Ball, Milwaukee Anime Fest and more this weekend.

1. The Unrighteous Brothers at SIP MKE

FRIDAY FROM 7-10 P.M. | SIP MKE

Lead singers from the band The Style and Mirage are getting together to put on a show of all of the Motown, classic rock and soul hits of today. There’s no cover charge, but seating is first come first serve. Table reservations are available with a paid drink deposit.

2. 808s & Skates Pt 2

FRIDAY FROM 7-11 P.M.| 4SEASONS SKATE PARK

This night of live music and skating will have two competitions – one for folks under 18 and one for folks 21 and up – with cool tricks for viewers and fun prizes for participants. After the competitions, jam out to live music by local acts. Learn more and get tickets here

It’s a Bucks home game weekend! Tickets are available online or the ticket office will be open at 12 p.m. on game day. 

4. Please Laugh: A Comedy Show

FRIDAY FROM 8-9:30 P.M. | VENNTURE BREW CO

Married comedians Rachel Mac (Comedy Central) and Devin Blake (The Onion) are bringing their new comedy show to Milwaukee. The show features three of their favorite comedians in the midwest, including Luise Noé, Connor O’Hara, and headliner Blake Burkhart. This show is 18+.

5. Living in Oblivion: Dark ’80s and ’90s Video Dance Party

FRIDAY AT 8 P.M. | X-RAY ARCADE

DJ Synthia is playing all the best ’80s and ’90s new wave and alternative songs at the X-Ray Arcade. Each song will be accompanied by their music video and will highlight the “Golden Age of MTV through the 120 Minutes era.” This show is 21+ and there is no cover charge.

6. Goblin King Masquerade Ball

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY FROM 9 P.M.-MIDNIGHT | TURNER HALL BALLROOM

The third annual Goblin King Masquerade Ball is happening over two nights this weekend. On Friday, Pride Night will feature games and drag performances. Saturday is the big ball and will feature surprise performers. This event is 18+ only and the event website holds information about dress codes and more.

7. Coffee & Contrast Sauna and Cold Plunge Experience

SATURDAY FROM 10 A.M.-2 P.M. | BRADFORD BEACH

The Hive is hosting a “coffee & contrast” event series this winter that includes hot saunas and the freezing water of Lake Michigan. As an introduction to contrast therapy, get together at Bradford Beach to enjoy coffee and connection before diving into the cold water.

All things anime are happening at Milwaukee Anime Fest this weekend. Get your best cosplay together, enjoy panel discussions, talk with artists and more. Get tickets here

9. New Year Chakra Alignment Flow: Balance, Breathe, Begin

SATURDAY FROM 10-11:30 A.M. | ATTITUDE DANCE COMPANY

This new year, start learning how to meditate and use breathwork and yoga to harness your energy into something good. This class is fitted for all levels and includes guided meditation, breathwork techniques, sound healing and yoga. Get tickets here

10. Winnie the Pooh Paint Party

SATURDAY FRM 1-3 P.M. | VIBEZ CREATIVE ARTS SPACE

Tickets for this adorable community painting event include a pre-sketched canvas, all of the painting materials and a drink of your choice. Youth from 7-17 are welcome if accompanied by an adult and the class is fit for all levels. Register here

11. Wine Glass Painting and DIY Beaded Wine Cork

SUNDAY FROM 1-3 P.M.

Sundays are for crafting. Paint some wine glasses and create your own beaded wine cork. There’s no experience necessary and all of the materials will be provided. You can choose from various designs or create your own. Complimentary non-alcoholic drinks will be provided, but you can bring your own wine to sip. 

12. “Lavender & Green Carnation” Reception

SATURDAY AT 4-6 P.M. | JAZZ GALLERY CENTER FOR THE ARTS

“Lavender & Green Carnation” shares the history of symbols that have quietly connected and empowered the LGBTQ+ community during times of social and political repression. Saturday is the opening reception and the first day to see the exhibition live.

13. The Official Onesie Bar Crawl

SATURDAY FROM 4 P.M.-MIDNIGHT | BROTHERS BAR & GRILL

It’s the “comfiest party of the year!” Tickets will get you 2 to 3 drinks or shots, free cover at all of the bars, souvenirs, exclusive drink specials and more. The crawl takes you through Milwaukee’s most exciting bars starting at Brother’s Bar & Grill. This event is 21+.

14. Chunky Blanket Class

SUNDAY FROM 1-4 P.M. | CHARMBIANCE COCKTAIL LOUNGE

The Charmbiance Cocktail Lounge is holding a blanket making class just in time for this cold snap. You’ll get to make the blanket by hand (no needles required) and there is no experience required. All of the materials will be provided with registration

15. City of Light Student Sledding

SUNDAY FROM 1:30-2:30 P.M. | CURRIE PARK

This Sunday, all middle and high schoolers are welcomed to go sledding at Currie Park for free. Lunch and sleds will be provided and all you have to do is show up to participate. Make sure to dress according to the weather.
