‘The Daily Show’ Scraps Milwaukee RNC Plans

Four days of shows from the Marcus Center had been planned; Comedy Central will now broadcast instead from its New York studios.

“The Daily Show” has scrapped plans to film from Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention this week following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, at a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

The show announced on social media that it would not broadcast Monday from Milwaukee as had been planned but would be back up Tuesday through Thursday from its New York City studios.

“Our apologies for the inconvenience, but due to logistical issues and the evolving situation in Milwaukee, we need to reschedule our events on the ground in Wisconsin and will look to make those up in the coming weeks,” the post stated.

The Comedy Central news/satire program had planned to tape shows Monday through Thursday in front of an audience at the Marcus Performing Arts Center. Plans for the week were to be capped with a show hosted by Jon Stewart that was to be taped live following Trump’s expected acceptance speech Thursday night.

The Marcus Performing Arts Center sent an email to ticketholders on Sunday announcing the cancelation.

“While we were all looking forward to the events, it is the right thing to do, and we support their decision,” the email from Marcus Center President and CEO Kevin Giglinto stated. “The safety and well-being of our audience members, guests and staff is the highest priority to the Marcus Performing Arts Center, and “The Daily Show.” We know that this was not an easy choice to make, but out of respect for the situation and an abundance of caution for everyone, this was a necessary decision.

“The Daily Show” also canceled “Indogcision 2024,” an event combining voter registration and pet adoption that had been planned for Cathedral Square Park on Sunday.
