Last week, the City of Milwaukee announced that it received funds from an anonymous donor to have the infamous abandoned boat, Deep Thought (aka Milwaukee’s S.S. Minnow) removed from the shoreline.
The boat attracted several visitors, gaining notoriety and becoming an unofficial Milwaukee landmark – it even had a song written about it by The Roaring Dans titled “The SS Milwaukee.”

Following the announcement of the boat’s removal, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled a limited edition Deep Thought Milwaukee Abandoned Boat Bobble.
The bobble, which is eight inches long, has a blue base with sandy texture, “Deep Throught” on the side and all the graffiti the boat collected during its time ashore. Each bobble head is individually numbered to 2,025 and only available on the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Musuem’s online store. It’ll run you $35 (plus an $8 shipping fee), and it’s available now for pre-order and expected to ship in November.

The random landing of the boat consistently brought community members together, as people flocked to see the boat, and some even used it as a background for photoshoots. People gathered this past Saturday to host a so-called “funeral” and say goodbye to the beached boat.
“The beached boat was a conversation piece and tourist attraction for countless visitors to Milwaukee’s lakefront,” said co-founder and CEO of the museum Phil Sklar in the museum’s announcement, “this bobble will be the perfect way for people to remember the most famous boat in Milwaukee!”
As of writing, the boat’s removal is still in progress. It is expected to be completely gone by Wednesday, April 30. With the bobble, Southeast Wisconsinites can remember their time with this mysterious boat, all six months of it.
