The Betty Awards were our way of paying tribute to Betty and her incredible impact on this community. We honored remarkable women who exemplify the quest for excellence for which Betty was known. For these awards, we created six categories that represent some of Betty’s outstanding characteristics: Bridge Builder, Groundbreaker, Risk Taker. The Standout Sister award salutes a woman who generously offers support to other women. Although Betty was not an artist, the Creative Genius award acknowledges Betty’s love and appreciation of arts and culture. And of course, The Tenacious B award, which we think needs no explanation.
Patty Metropulos (Tenacious B), Tiffany McDuffie (Risk Taker), Christine Flasch (Creative Genius), Sister Edna Longergan (Groundbreaker), Dr. Joan Prince (Standout Sister) and Katie Sanders (Bridge Builder) were collectively awe-inspiring as they took the stage to collect their awards. Additionally, Barbara Brown Lee was recognized with the Quadracci Family Award. She was near and dear to Betty as well as her children, and has made a significant impact on our community.
The winners were also recognized by Rep. Gwen Moore, who sent them a Certificate of Commendation when she learned about the event.
