“Fostering a vibrant and inclusive community through music and culture not only enriches our city but also amplifies the significance of Juneteenth, celebrating freedom and unity,” he said.
The partnership will provide new Juneteenth programming to Summerfest patrons, Milwaukee World Festival president and CEO Sarah Pancheri said.
“We are honored to collaborate with Northcott Neighborhood House, a leader in Milwaukee for decades, to celebrate the spirit of community, history and culture of Juneteenth,” she said.
The 2025 dates for Summerfest, which will be held over two holidays – Juneteenth (June 19) and Independence Day (July 4) – are as follows for the three-weekend music festival:
- June 19-21
- June 26-28
- July 3-5.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is a holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In Milwaukee, the day is marked with a variety of events and activities that reflect the culture and heritage of the Black community, including parades and festivals featuring live music, dance performances, and various types of cuisine, as well as educational workshops and historical exhibitions.
Northcott Neighborhood House, 2460 N. Sixth Street, is a multipurpose community center created by the United Methodist Church in 1961 that provides education, employment opportunities and basic necessities to youth, families and seniors in the Milwaukee area. The center’s success stories include the Griot Apartments, Garfield Avenue School and the Black Holocaust Museum.
The organization has hosted the city’s Juneteenth parade and festival for several years.
