Nicosia King spent much of her early career working for a payday loans service. She enjoyed the work and liked the leadership at the company, but as the years went by, she kept feeling the urge to move on and chart her own path.
“I just wanted more,” she says. “There were no growth opportunities there. The position I was in was probably where I would have stayed for the next five or 10 years. I needed something more.”
She thought about branching out on her own – starting her own business. She’d always been entrepreneurial, even running her own tiny business braiding hair and babysitting as a girl. When she thought of fields that interested her now, she was drawn to assisted living, caring for the elderly and those in need.
“I think it came from my upbringing,” she says. “I didn’t have a close relationship with my grandparents. My mom and dad always took in people. They helped friends, family, if someone needed a place to stay. That was my upbringing – that it was important to always be there for people and help.”
On that principle, King founded Golden Path in 2009. She started with an assisted living facility, and in the years ahead expanded to offer at-home care as well.
Golden Path Senior Living now provides full-time room, board, care and supervision for adults and those who need care, while Golden Path Home Care sends trained care workers to people’s homes to provide bathing, dressing, meal preparation and other services. Golden Path care workers also offer help with errands, transportation, homemaking and more.
Over the past decade, the organization has expanded its footprint and continues to provide care for people across Milwaukee. King has hired dozens of employees and continues to grow the company.
“I’m really proud to celebrate over 10 years in business,” King says. “I’m grateful and thankful to have been able to accomplish this with Golden Path.”
