Tuesday, July 21: Coliseum with Xerxes, Hot Coffin and Foreign Lawns at Riverwest Public House, 8 p.m. ($10 advance; $12 door)
Formed in 2003 as a hardcore punk band, Louisville’s Coliseum took the leap into ‘70s/‘80s inspired post-punk on its latest album, Anxiety’s Kiss. The three-piece don’t sound like fish out of water, mixing the band’s influences of DC-area punk and the Killing Joke skillfully. Opening the show is fellow post-punk band from Louisville, Xerxes, plus Milwaukee’s Hot Coffin. (815 E. Locust St., RiverwestPublicHouse.WordPress.com)

Wednesday, July 22: Lazyeyes with Mortgage Freeman and The Teen Age at Mad Planet, 9 p.m. ($6 advance; $8 door)
The dreamy pop band Lazyeyes conjures the dog days of summer, when the heat is so intense that plastic melts when left out in direct sunlight. Garage pop group Teen Age feels like the refreshing cold shower after a long day in the sun. (533 E. Center St, Mad-Planet.net)

Thursday, July 23: This Will Destroy You with The Velvet Teen at Turner Hall Ballroom, 8 p.m. ($14)
Post-rock does not provide a road map like other genres, which makes the journey all the more unexpected and exciting. Texas-based This Will Destroy You takes the path rarely traveled to build up to its punishingly loud crescendos. The band’s third full-length, September’s Another Language, showed relative restraint, trimming many tracks down to the four-minute mark. (1032 N. 4th St., PabstTheater.org)
Also: Radioactivity with Sugar Stems and Tenement at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn, 9 p.m. ($7) – (1001 E. Locust St., Linnemans.com)

Also: Total Babes with Heavy Hand and Piles at Cactus Club, 9 p.m.

Sunday, July 26: A.A. Bondy with Mark Waldoch and Joe Crockett at Cactus Club, 9 p.m. ($12)
Folk artist A.A. Bondy has kept a low profile since 2011’s Believers (off Fat Possum Records), but he has returned from hiding for a show at the Cactus Club this Sunday night. The time off was possibly spent compiling the stories for his next effort, which he may test out while he’s in town. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., CactusClubMilwaukee.com)
