State of Sound, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee’s monthly live concert series, will make its 2024 premiere on Saturday with four artists performing.
Designed to showcase and support musicians from across the state, with a focus on artists from Southeastern Wisconsin, State of Sound attracts indie-alternative music fans to the station’s Walker’s Point studio (220 E. Pittsburgh Ave.).
Kenny Perez, 88Nine assistant program director, will host the events, which will be held on the first Saturday of each month throughout the year. The following slate of artists is scheduled to perform on Saturday: Sleepy Gaucho; Dak Dubois; Wave Chapelle; and Scam Likely.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!
Artists will be announced monthly about three weeks before they’re scheduled to perform.
“Three hours of live music with four talented Wisconsin musicians and acts. It’s all about creating an awesome, unforgettable musical experience that’ll bring even more joy to our audience,” Perez said.
In 2023, a total of 31 local artists performed during the State of Sound series, which returned after a three-year hiatus and was rebranded from 414Live.

“Supporting State of Sound means supporting Milwaukee’s creative economy. 88Nine has been championing local talent since we hit the airwaves and now we get to do that in person and invite Milwaukee’s indie music lovers to do the same,” 88Nine Senior Director of Programming Jordan Lee said. “The series ensures that artists and bands can thrive here, with stage time that empowers them financially. Our attendees and supporters are changing Milwaukee’s state of creative economic impact.”
Erin Wolf, 88Nine music director, will host a weekly companion State of Sound podcast that will feature a single artist. The 30-minute podcast episodes will be available one month after each State of Sound performance, airing at 5:30 p.m. on select Thursdays on 88Nine.

Tickets for the performances are available for purchase on Eventbrite or at the door. Doors for all performances will open at 7 p.m. The concerts will run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Discourse Coffee will host a pop-up beverage stand, with drinks available for purchase.
Wisconsin-based artists interested in performing at State of Sound are encouraged to submit their music and upcoming projects for consideration on Radio Milwaukee’s website.
